Church to Camp

Church to Camp

This summer, we have several churches that have signed up to help with specific weeks to allow us to increase our capacity.

If you’d like to serve at camp this summer, there are several different ways. Some areas we can use people are:

  • Kitchen
  • Day Camp Leaders
  • Overnight Cabin Leader

When volunteering, you will need to fill out an application, finish paperwork, and complete training. This will include being a part of training on June 6th.

Application coming soon!

What's my commitment?

  • attend all of the days that your church has committed to serve together
  • fill an online application and be approved by the NLBC team
  • attend day long training June 6, 2026 8am - 7pm
  • complete some online training on your own before July 1, 2026
  • submit criminal record check and vulnerable persons check

You'll be partnered with one of our cabin leaders and stay in a cabin with about 10 kids. You will be involved in activities, Bible Study, and all aspects of camp life from wake up to sleep with a scheduled break.

Ride the bus out and join one of our leaders with a cabin of kids. You will be involved in activities, Bible Study, and all aspects of camp life. Day Campers and leaders are picked up at 7:45 am at Lakewood Alliance Church and dropped off at 4:45pm.

There is always lots to do in the kitchen! Some of the things include:

Cooking meals under the supervision and direction of Team Leaders, vegetable and fruit prep, baking cookies and desserts, cleaning and organizing, serving meals

Depending on if there is space on the bus that week, you might be able to ride the bus that week from Lakewood Alliance.

The shifts would shifts could vary and we'd work with Stephen and Jeni to make sure it works the easiest for everyone. We can either have kitchen people on a shift that works with the day camp schedule (8:00-4:30), or if it works better for them, we can have them on a shift with the rest of the crew. In the past those shifts have been 6:30-3:30 or 9:30-6:30 or 11:15-8:15.

Once you have applied, been accepted, and finished all paperwork, we’d love to see you more!

To serve or visit for days outside of your week with your church we can connect and plan more visits.

If you are in a cabin overnight you will be staying with one of our leaders and about ten kids.
If you are serving in one of the other areas we will work with you to decide if we have space for you overnight or if you want to commute either in your own vehicle, carpooling with the church, or on the bus.

Camp generally only allows service dogs around the camp site.

Only if they are in a position where they can be supervised, such as having the kid work in the kitchen with you. Cabin leaders would not be able to have their kids with them.

We'd love to have all applications in before June 6th so we are able to have you join our training and open up spaces at camp early enough.

If you are an overnight leader you will drive yourself out and stay the week! We'll let you know based on the week the time we start our meeing before the week begins and what time our ending meeting is.

If you are on Day Camp, we'd love you on the bus every day and you get to sleep in your own bed!

Kitchen hours will vary; commuting is the best option, as we have limited beds at camp during our busiest weeks.  There might be space on the day camp bus, or maybe you are arranging a carpool with the other folks from your church or driving yourself out.

Other Weekly Volunteers

Other roles filled over the summer include Speakers, Health Attendants, and AUGs. While these are not part of Church to Camp they are vital roles filled each year.

Contact us if you feel that you can make a difference in one of these areas.

Camp Speaker

One of the most relied-upon roles, a Camp Speaker is needed every week both at our Main Site and at WilderNess. As the Camp Speaker, you will prepare age-sensitive Christian messages in line with Evangelical beliefs, and will speak in chapels for the prescribed number of times during the week. While you will be given time and space during the week to work on your talks, it is also expected that you make meaningful connections with campers by participating in camp activities.

Health Attendant

Called upon many times during the day and night, the Health Attendant fulfills a vital role by organizing and administering camper medications, responding to minor health and first aid needs and assisting our first-aid and waterfront personnel with major first aid crises. As the Health Attendant, you will be available to assist with camper health needs 24/7, and will carry a radio at all times. You will also be qualified with one or more of the following licenses:

  • Occupational First Aid (Level 3) - Preferred

  • Emergency Medical Responder

  • Paramedic (PCP / ACP / CCP)

  • Licensed Practical Nurse / Registered Nurse / Nursing Students

  • Physician / Medical Doctor

Camp A-U-G (Auntie/Uncle/Grandparent)

We expect a lot of our Cabin Team, and providing them with the necessary support is vital to us. As a Camp A-U-G, you will be available 24/7 to assist our team with homesick campers, children requiring extra care, and children requiring behavior support. You will be expected to carry a radio at all times, and to make meaningful connections with campers, especially those who do have trouble fitting in to camp's rhythm.
